Togo

Ready TO GO Where?

Map of Togo

Okay, let’s begin with how this trip came to be! As much as I love travelling, and would love to explore many ancient cities in the world, I had little geographical knowledge about Africa or Togo for that matter. Before 2016, before I met Miriam Petterson (my dearest Kiwi friend) and before I met Jyoti, I had no idea Togo existed.

I met these wonderful girls back when we were studying “Diploma in Tropical Nursing (DTN)” in LSHTM in 2016. Volunteering in Nepal after the earthquake inspired me to study a course that predominantly explores the humanitarian topic, tropical diseases and public health believing that one day, I will make a difference in this unjust world. This passion of becoming a humanitarian one day to serve the sick, help the poor and feed the malnourished was motivated when I came back from my brief encounter with Earthquake relief in Nepal 2015.

DTN 2016

From day 1 in DTN class, I discovered that this is the field I want to pursue into- what I wanted to do for a long time. After meeting these amazing groups of the like-minded cohort, my enthusiasm for volunteering/ working in tropical or developing countries was cemented in my heart. I wanted to do something for the people to make their lives better, to make them healthier and to improve the chances of their quality of lives. I believe it would be an excellent opportunity to develop my interest in public health, a field one day I wish to study and pursue professionally in the future.

Me and Jyoti will be arriving in Lomé on 12th June and I intend to stay here until 30th September. I am so excited and looking forward to this amazing Trip! Can’t wait!
